About Tarmac Co In Town
Tarmac and asphalt is the one trade we work in across Town. Every estimate we give is for tarmac or tarmacadam, on a driveway, a laneway or an overlay on an older surface.
Before any work starts we give a free estimate on site. A tired drive may only need a repair or an overlay. One that is sinking needs digging out and building new.
How We Work
On every tarmac driveway the edge is fixed first, an edging kerb or a border, and then we lay the tarmac inside it. An edge left with nothing holding it is where a drive starts to break up.
Border samples in block paving or granite setts are laid out on site and you choose. At the entrance, an edging kerb takes the load of every car arriving off the road, which keeps the dips and bumps out of the surface behind it.
The base is machine rolled with a vibrating roller of around 20 ton before any tarmac goes on it. We set the levels a brick and a half to two bricks below the damp proof course.
Water must never be left to pool on tarmac, so we set the falls to carry it into channel drains, which run on to your existing drainage or into a soakaway.
Tarmac has to be laid in one run. On a large area in Town the stopping points are planned before laying starts, because tarmac bonds to itself as it is laid and a stop halfway across leaves a joining line.
Laying a tarmac driveway needs rollers and at least three people on the go, and a lot can go wrong on it, so it is never a DIY job.
